How to avoid an out of network ATM fee
An out of network ATM fee is often two charges: one from the machine owner, called a surcharge, and one from your own bank. Allpoint and MoneyPass are US networks that say their machines skip the owner's surcharge when your account includes that network. Your bank can still charge its own fee. The dollar is on the bank's fee page, not on a national list.

Allpoint
Allpoint's consumer page, opened 18 October 2026, says it offers cash access without ATM surcharge fees at over 55,000 ATMs, in the United States and in other countries. You get that access through your bank, credit union, or prepaid card program. Allpoint says to look for the logo, or to use its locator, and to contact your institution to see if the account includes Allpoint.
The same site lists two different questions: what a surcharge is, and how a transaction fee is different. This guide does not copy a dollar range from a staging copy of that FAQ. The production page is the one that says the network is surcharge free and that you have to ask your own institution. If the ATM screen asks you to accept a surcharge, follow the notice on that screen and the instructions your bank gave you. If you were charged at a machine that was supposed to be in the network, Allpoint's help list points you back to the card provider.
Allpoint+ is a smaller set of machines that can take a cash deposit, and only if your provider supports deposits. Allpoint says those machines are at select stores and show an Allpoint+ logo. A deposit that does not show in the account is a question for the bank, not a fee this page can price.
MoneyPass
MoneyPass's locator page says the ATMs it lists are meant to be places where a MoneyPass card can be used without a surcharge. It also says availability, participation, and the surcharge free status can change. If an address has more than one machine, look for the MoneyPass logo on the sign or on the screen. If the screen says a fee or surcharge may be charged, MoneyPass says that machine may not be in the network.
Not every card can deposit at a MoneyPass ATM. The locator says to ask the card issuer. A withdrawal and a deposit are different transactions. Your bank's daily limit is the bank's rule, not a number Allpoint or MoneyPass prints for every card.
The fee your own bank adds, even at a partner machine, is the line on the statement. Named US amounts that were opened for this site are on out of network ATM fees by US bank. The short rule for who may charge is on what an ATM fee is.
Canada
Allpoint and MoneyPass are not a substitute for your Canadian bank's own ABM network. Use a machine your bank lists as its own when you want to avoid the other bank's charge. The dollar each named Canadian bank prints for someone else's machine is on ATM fees by Canadian bank. This page does not add a second Canada table.
A US dollar withdrawal on a trip can also pick up a conversion charge. That is foreign transaction fees, which is separate from the surcharge at the machine.
A US statement stays in USD. A Canadian statement stays in C$. Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank or the company, and it does not cancel a membership.
Questions
- Does Allpoint mean the withdrawal is free?
- Allpoint says its network does not add the ATM owner's surcharge when your provider includes Allpoint. Your own bank can still charge a transaction fee. Ask the bank.
- What if the MoneyPass screen says a fee may be charged?
- MoneyPass says that machine may not be participating. Look for the logo, and do not treat a stale locator pin as a promise.
- Do these networks replace a Canadian bank's ABMs?
- No. For a Canadian account, start with the machines your bank includes. The Canada ATM fee page has the dollars that were printed.
