What a Roku charge means on your statement

A Roku charge is a subscription or a purchase billed through your Roku account. Roku's help page says Roku never charges for the Roku account itself or for customer support. The line is a channel, a Roku Channel subscription, or a temporary check of the card. The channel name is often shorter on the statement than the name you remember.

How the line looks

Roku says subscriptions billed by Roku appear as charges from Roku, Roku for, or The Roku Channel. The Roku Channel app is free. A paid add on you start inside it, such as a channel subscription, can still say The Roku Channel. Roku's examples of a parent company name on the bill: Roku for CBS Interactive is Paramount+. Roku for Warner Media Global Digital Services LLC is HBO Max. Roku for AMC Networks is Shudder. Roku for Starz is Starz. A Disney+ charge billed by Roku can show as ROKU FOR DISNEY ELECTRO followed by numbers. If the line names Paramount+ or Starz and does not say Roku, Roku says you subscribed with that company directly.

A $1.00 charge can be a temporary hold Roku uses to check that the card is valid. Roku says it is not a real charge and that the $1.00 is refunded. A free trial becomes a paid subscription unless you turn auto renew off on or before the last day of the trial. The subscription list at my.roku.com/subscriptions shows what that Roku account is paying for. If the charge is not in that list, check Settings, then System, then About on the device. Another email on another Roku account in the house may be the one that subscribed.

Which channel, and who can cancel it

Open my.roku.com/subscriptions. Under Active subscriptions, select the row. Manage subscription shows the channel and the renewal date. That is the page that ties Roku for a company name back to the app. On the device, press Home, highlight the app in the Apps row, and press Star. Manage subscription is not in Quick Access. You have to open the app from Apps.

If you signed up through Roku and Roku manages the plan, turn off auto renew on the website or on the device. You keep access until the billing period ends. Roku says there is no partial refund for the days you do not use. A Roku PIN, if you set one for purchases, is required to turn auto renew off and to turn it back on. Disney+, Hulu, and Sling TV are different. Roku can bill you and still tell you to cancel with the company. Roku prints Disney+ at 888-905-7888, Hulu at 877-824-4858, and Sling TV at 888-394-6698. If Disney+ or Hulu asks for a customer identifier for billing, Roku says it is on the Roku invoice. Apple TV+, YouTube TV, Amazon Prime Video, Spotify, and other services you bought from the service itself are canceled with that service, not in the Roku subscription list.

If the charge continues

Roku says subscriptions renew unless you cancel. After the period you already paid for has ended, a new charge means auto renew is still on, or a different Roku account is paying, or the channel is billed by the streaming company. Check the subscription list again. If the row is gone and the card is still charged after that period, contact Roku for a Roku managed plan. Contact Disney+, Hulu, Sling, or the other company when they manage the plan.

Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank or the company, and it does not cancel a plan. How to cancel a subscription is the general checklist. The control for a Roku managed channel is Turn off auto renew. Hulu's own plan, when Hulu bills you directly, is on what a Hulu charge means.

Questions

What does Roku for mean on a statement?
Roku says a subscription it bills can show as Roku, Roku for, or The Roku Channel. The words after Roku for are often the company that owns the channel, not the app name. The subscription list names the channel.
Can I cancel Disney+ or Hulu inside Roku if Roku billed me?
Roku says no. Contact Disney+ or Hulu even when the charge says Roku. Roku prints phone numbers for Disney+, Hulu, and Sling TV on its cancel page.
Is a $1 Roku charge a subscription?
Roku says a $1.00 charge can be a temporary hold to check the card, and that the hold is refunded. A free trial that you did not cancel becomes a real subscription.
