How to waive a First Horizon monthly fee
First Horizon prints three personal checking monthly charges, and each one has its own way to avoid or refund it. The numbers below are from the bank's account and service fees page, opened 19 October 2026. A savings fee is a different table on that same page. Check the current page before you rely on a dollar, because the bank can change it.

Essential, Advantage, and Elite
Essential Checking lists a monthly service charge of $5. The page says the fee is refunded within three business days if the main account holder is 18 to 24. Eligibility is subject to the age of majority in your state. The page does not print a balance waiver for Essential. The minimum to open Essential is $25.
Advantage Checking lists a monthly service charge of $10. During the statement cycle, do one of these. Bring in $500 in direct deposits. Or keep a $1,500 average daily balance in the Advantage Checking account. The minimum to open Advantage is $50.
Elite Checking lists a monthly service charge of $20. During the statement cycle, do one of these. Keep a $5,000 average daily balance in the Elite Checking account. Or keep a $25,000 combined average daily balance in consumer deposits such as checking, savings, money market, CDs, and IRAs. First Horizon says combined deposits add checking and savings balances, the principal of CDs where you are a primary or joint owner, and IRAs where you are the primary owner. The minimum to open Elite is $50.
Paper statements and other lines that are not the monthly fee
Footnote 1 on the checking table says a $2 statement fee applies for paper statements. The statement charges section says eStatements are no charge. Paper statements, if you choose a mailed checking statement with check images, are $2 a month. Traditional Savings and consumer money market accounts are not charged that paper fee. A statement printout is $2 per request. Switching to eStatements is on how to download a First Horizon statement.
The same fee page lists a Legal Action Processing Fee of $100, a charge back check fee of $16, a stop payment of $37, and a dormant fee of $5 a month on some checking accounts under $5,000 with no deposits or withdrawals for a year. Essential Checking is not charged that dormant fee. Those lines are not the monthly service charge. The legal line is explained on what a legal process fee is. A non First Horizon ATM is $3 for each account transaction and each balance inquiry, with extra notes for Essential and Elite. The owner of that ATM can add its own surcharge.
Savings, and how to ask
Money Market Savings is $9 a month if combined balances are under $5,000, and the page says the monthly service is refunded within three business days when the primary or joint owner has an active Elite Checking account. If that Elite account is closed, the $9 applies when combined consumer deposits are under $5,000. Traditional Savings is $5 a quarter if the daily balance is under $250 for the quarter, and that quarterly charge is refunded within three business days when the primary or joint owner has an active Essential or Advantage Checking account. Each withdrawal over six in a quarter is $2.
If the monthly charge still posts, call the number on the statement with the date and the amount. Ask which waiver the account failed. A refund of one fee is a request. The bank can say no. Other US checking waivers are listed from US bank fees. Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank or the company, and it does not cancel a plan.
Questions
- Does a $1,500 balance waive every First Horizon checking fee?
- No. That balance is one way to waive Advantage, which is $10. Essential is $5 and the published refund is for a main holder age 18 to 24. Elite is $20 and uses a $5,000 Elite balance or $25,000 combined deposits.
- Is the $2 paper statement fee inside the monthly charge?
- The fee page lists it separately. eStatements are no charge. A mailed checking statement with check images is $2 a month. Savings and consumer money market accounts are not charged that paper fee.
- Where is the $100 legal fee explained?
- On the legal process fee guide. First Horizon lists a Legal Action Processing Fee of $100. It is not the monthly service charge.
