How to ask about a pay by phone or same day card payment fee
Paying a credit card by phone, or paying so the payment counts the same day, is not the same as a fee. The Chase, Capital One, and American Express Canada pages opened on 19 October 2026 list a phone payment and do not print a dollar for it. A same day credit time is not a fee either.

Chase lists a phone number and no phone fee
Opened 19 October 2026. Chase's credit card payment page lists an automated phone service at 1-800-436-7958. It does not print a fee for that call. The timing table on that page is for online payments you start by signing in on chase.com. Chase says payments through other websites, or through other Chase services such as Chase Bill Pay, can follow a different clock.
Before 8 p.m. ET, Chase says the payment is credited the same day and posted the same day, except Saturday, when it posts Sunday evening. Between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. ET, Chase says it is credited the same day and posted the next day, except Friday, when it posts Sunday evening. If you pay at least the minimum between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. ET on the due date, Chase says the payment is still on time. A late fee can show the next day, and Chase says it reverses that fee automatically when the payment posts in 1 to 2 days. A late fee that is not reversed is a different question, on credit card late payment fees.
Other pages that do not print a phone fee
Capital One's payment help page says you can make a one time payment by phone by calling the number on the back of the card or on the statement. That page does not print a fee for the call. It does print a clock: Capital One must receive the payment before 12 midnight ET on the due date to credit it to the current billing cycle, except when the due date is the same day as the statement closing date. In that case the payment must arrive before 8 p.m. ET. A late fee is what Capital One says can follow a missed minimum, not a printed phone fee.
American Express Canada's ways to pay page says you can pay by phone by calling the number on the back of the card. That section does not print a fee. A different section says an online sporadic payment made before 8 p.m. EST is credited the same day. Do not paste that 8 p.m. line onto the phone section. The phone section does not print it.
What this page will not invent
Older surveys have named phone payment fees at some banks. The issuer pages opened for this guide did not print those dollars, so this page does not repeat them. If your statement shows a fee next to a phone payment, ask the issuer what the fee is, with the date and the amount. They can say it stands. This page has no success rate.
A Chase business page about taking cards on a phone prints 2.6% plus 10 cents for Tap to Pay. That is a fee for a store that accepts a customer's card. It is not a fee for paying your own Chase credit card bill. The statement PDF for a Chase card is on how to download a Chase statement.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank or the card company, and it does not cancel a card or a purchase.
Questions
- Does Chase charge to pay by phone?
- The payment page opened on 19 October 2026 lists 1-800-436-7958 and does not print a fee for that call. It does print credit and post times for online payments made on chase.com.
- Is a same day credit a fee?
- No. A credit time tells you whether the payment counts on the due date. Chase, Capital One, and American Express Canada print clocks. They do not print a dollar for those clocks on the pages opened here.
- Why might a late fee show after I paid Chase at night?
- If you pay at least the minimum between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. ET on the due date, Chase says a late fee can appear the next day and then reverse in 1 to 2 days when the payment posts. If it does not reverse, ask Chase with the date and the amount.
- Is Tap to Pay the same as paying my card bill by phone?
- No. Tap to Pay on a Chase business page is how a store accepts a customer's card, at 2.6% plus 10 cents. Paying the bill on your own Chase card is the payment page, which does not print that percent.
