How to ask about a Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select annual fee
Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard is not the MileUp card and not the Globe card. The American Airlines card page prints $0 for the first year, then $99. The pricing details say that $99 is waived for the first 12 months after the account opens. Asking Citi to remove a fee already charged is a request.

The $99 after the first year
Opened 19 October 2026. The American Airlines Citi card page prints the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard as $0 intro annual fee for the first year, then $99. The pricing details on that page say the annual fee is $99, waived for the first 12 months of account opening. Minimum interest charge is $0.50. The fee for foreign transactions is none on this card. The variable purchase APR on the offer block is 19.74% to 29.74%. The pricing details say the variable cash advance APR is 29.99%, and the variable penalty APR is up to 29.99% if you make a late payment or a payment that is returned.
The cash advance fee on those pricing details is either $10 or 5% of each cash advance, whichever is greater. The balance transfer fee is either $5 or 5% of each transfer, whichever is greater. Those are not the annual fee. Named cash advance rules for other agreements are on cash advance fees.
Do not use another AAdvantage card's fee
The same page lists the Citi / AAdvantage Globe Mastercard at an annual fee of $350. It also says the AAdvantage MileUp card has a foreign transaction fee of 3% of the U.S. dollar amount of each transaction, and that the other Citi / AAdvantage cards you can apply for today do not have foreign transaction fees. Do not use $350, or a 3% foreign fee, for Platinum Select. Match the name on the statement. A wider foreign fee list is on foreign transaction fees by card issuer.
The offer block shows 80,000 AAdvantage bonus miles after $3,500 in purchases within the first 4 months. The same block also shows 50,000 next to 80,000. Use the number in the offer you accept. Bonus miles are not a waiver of a fee that already posted. Citi Strata Premier is a different card, on how to ask about a Citi Strata Premier fee.
What to ask
Use the phone number on the statement if it is printed there. Have the date, the fee name, and the amount. Ask whether the charge is the $99 annual fee, a cash advance fee, or something else. Ask whether the first 12 months waiver was supposed to credit the annual fee. Then ask Citi to review the fee or remove it. They can say no. This page has no success rate. If the answer is no, ask about a product change and the last day to close before the next annual fee. This page does not tell you to close the card. How to ask about a card annual fee is the general page. The PDF steps are on how to download a Citi statement.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank or the card company, and it does not cancel a card or a purchase.
Questions
- Is the Globe card's $350 the Platinum Select fee?
- No. On the American Airlines card page opened on 19 October 2026, Globe is $350. Platinum Select is $0 for the first year, then $99.
- Does this card have a foreign transaction fee?
- The pricing details say none. The same page says MileUp has a 3% foreign transaction fee. Do not copy the MileUp percent onto Platinum Select.
- What is the cash advance fee?
- The pricing details say either $10 or 5% of each cash advance, whichever is greater. The cash advance APR on that block is 29.99% variable. That fee is not the $99 annual fee.
- Will Citi remove an annual fee it already charged if I ask?
- They might, and they might not. Asking is a request. A first year waiver on the card page is not a promise to erase a fee already on the statement.
