The fee on the cheque
Opened 20 October 2026. Depositing a foreign cheque and writing a foreign cheque are different rows when the bank prints both. A cheque that later comes back is on returned deposit fees at Canadian banks. The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank.
| Bank and item | Fee the page prints | What the same page also says |
|---|---|---|
| RBC, a cheque in a currency other than the account | $20.00 | Additional account services prints $20.00, in the currency of the account, for cheques written in a currency other than the account. |
| TD, a cheque not written in the currency of the account | $20 | The account fee table prints $20 on All-Inclusive, Unlimited, Every Day, Minimum, and Student for a cheque not written in the currency of the account. A returned foreign deposit is a different line, $15. |
| Scotiabank, a foreign currency cheque on a Canadian dollar account | $10.00 under $1,000, $15.00 at $1,000 and over | The fees page prints those two amounts for a cheque processed in foreign currency on a Canadian dollar account, using the Canadian equivalent of the cheque amount. |
| BMO, a foreign currency cheque deposited to a Canadian dollar account | $5.00 | The everyday banking booklet prints $5.00 for a foreign currency cheque deposited to a Canadian dollar account, and $20.00 for a foreign currency cheque drawn on a Canadian dollar account. Those are two rows. |
| National Bank, a US dollar item deposited to a Canadian dollar account | CA$7.00 | The fee guide prints CA$7.00 for a US dollar item into a Canadian dollar account, and US$7.00 for a US dollar item into a US dollar account when you do not have a US dollar account. A foreign currency other than US dollars is $11.00 at $1,000.00 or less and $13.00 at $1,000.01 or more. A cheque in US dollars or another currency drawn on a Canadian dollar account is $20.00. |
The exchange rate is still separate
These rows are the service fee. The bank can also set the rate it uses to convert the cheque. National Bank's collection line is a different service: an item sent for special collection prints 0.50% with a minimum of $250.00. That is not the $7.00 deposit row.
