Youth and kids account fees at Canadian banks

A kids or youth price is an age rule on a named account. It is not the same table as a post-secondary student chequing account. Student chequing at TD, RBC Advantage, Scotiabank, and CIBC Smart Start is on [Canadian student chequing account fees](/guides/canada-student-chequing-fees).

The monthly fee

Opened 20 October 2026. Everyday adult accounts are on monthly chequing account fees by bank. The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank.

Opened 20 October 2026. Canadian dollars. One account per row.
AccountMonthly feeWho the same page says it is for
RBC Leo's Young Savers$0The account page says no monthly fee for kids 0 to 12, with no minimum balance. A non-RBC ATM on the Interac network is $2.00. A non-RBC ATM in Canada or the US on PLUS is $3.00. Outside Canada and the US on PLUS is $5.00. Cross-border debit is $1.00. The deposit booklet prints the same $0.00 monthly fee.
BMO Performance for kids and teens$0.00The kids and teens page prints Performance at $0.00, and says the no monthly plan fee ends on the teen's 19th birthday. Under 13 is a Kids Account. Ages 13 to 18 get Performance with no monthly plan fee. The everyday banking booklet prints the same $0.00 Performance price for kids 12 and under and for teens 13 to 18, after you register at a branch with proof of age. One non-BMO ATM withdrawal in Canada is included, then $2 in Canada and $5 outside Canada.
BMO Premium for kids and teens$13.00The same booklet prints Premium at $13.00 for kids and for teens, which is a discount off the ordinary Premium price. The kids page shows Premium reduced to $13.00 as well. This is not the $0.00 Performance row.
National Bank The Minimalist, ages 0 to 24$0 a monthThe account page prints $0 a month for ages 0 to 17 and for ages 18 to 24, and $3.95 a month for ages 25 to 59. Footnote 3 says the package has no flat monthly fee for those aged 24 and under, including students and people under 18. That age price is this row. It is not a separate kids savings product.

What a $0 month still leaves

RBC still prints ATM and cross-border debit dollars on the Leo page. BMO still prints extra non-BMO ATM dollars after the one included withdrawal. National Bank's $0 is the flat monthly fee. Other lines in its fee guide, such as a foreign currency cheque, are separate.

CIBC Smart Start is already on the student chequing page, at $0 until age 25. It is not repeated here.

Questions

Is Leo's Young Savers the same as RBC Advantage for students?
No. Leo's is the kids account for ages 0 to 12, with a $0 monthly fee on its own page. Advantage Banking for students is the account on the student chequing page.
Does BMO stay free after 18?
The kids and teens page says the Performance no monthly plan fee ends on the 19th birthday. The booklet's teen row is ages 13 to 18.
Is National Bank free for every age?
No. The Minimalist page prints $0 a month through age 24 and $3.95 a month for ages 25 to 59. A separate $0 also prints for some GIS, RDSP, and Indigenous clients. Those are different rules.
