Foreign currency cash at US bank branches

Ordering euro or pesos at a branch is not the same line as a foreign transaction fee on a debit card. This page is what each bank printed on 20 October 2026. A card percent is on [US debit card foreign transaction fees](/guides/us-debit-card-foreign-transaction-fees).

The fee, and the markup they do not print

Opened 20 October 2026. If a page does not print a percent, this guide does not invent one. The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank.

Opened 20 October 2026. US dollars where a dollar is printed. A missing percent stays missing.
BankWhat the page printsWhat the same page also says
ChaseNo separate feeChase says it does not charge a fee to buy, sell, or exchange foreign currency. The exchange rate includes commissions and spreads, and it can differ from a rate you see online. Chase does not print that spread as a percent. Orders are placed at a branch. You need an existing Chase relationship. There is no maximum amount. Coins are not accepted, so the minimum depends on the currency.
Wells FargoNo percent printedThe FAQ says the spread between the buy rate and the sell rate includes a markup, and it does not print that markup as a percent. The minimum foreign currency cash order is $200. Orders over $3,000 must be picked up at a branch. Branches no longer keep foreign currency on hand for same-day purchase. The exchange rate is separate from any wire fee.
Bank of AmericaNo percent printedThe exchange rates page says it uses all-in pricing. The price may include a markup, and the markup can differ by customer and by how you place the order. It does not print that markup as a percent. Customers with a checking or savings account can order up to $10,000 of foreign currency every 30 days. Bank of America does not accept foreign coins.

Cash at the branch is not a card purchase

A debit card purchase abroad can still print a foreign transaction fee even when the branch cash order has no separate fee. Chase's foreign exchange page says a foreign currency transaction fee may apply to an ATM withdrawal or a debit purchase outside the US, depending on the account. That card line is not the branch order.

Canadian banks print a card percent on foreign currency conversion fees by Canadian bank. A cheque in another currency is on foreign currency cheque fees at Canadian banks.
