Non-customer cheque cashing fees at Canadian banks
Cashing a cheque when you do not have an account at that bank is a different line from a certified cheque or a bank draft. This page is the dollar each bank printed on 20 October 2026. US banks that do not print this dollar are on [non-customer check cashing fees at US banks](/guides/check-cashing-fees-us).

The fee for a cheque cashed without an account
Opened 20 October 2026. A government cheque can be a different row from a personal cheque. The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank.
| Bank | Fee the page prints | What the same page also says |
|---|---|---|
| RBC, negotiating a cheque for a non-client | $5.00 | The non-client table prints $5.00 for any negotiated cheque. The fee is waived on federal Government of Canada cheques, and on provincial and municipal government cheques up to $1,500. A non-client ATM withdrawal is a different line, $3.50. |
| Scotiabank, a non-government cheque for a non-customer | $5.00 | The fees page prints $5.00 for each non-government cheque cashed by a non-Scotiabank customer. The access-to-basic-banking PDF says Scotiabank cashes federal government cheques up to $1,500 for customers and non-customers for free, with identification rules on that PDF. |
| CIBC, a CIBC cheque for someone without a CIBC account | $5.00 each | The personal account service fees PDF says that if a branch chooses to negotiate a CIBC cheque for a non-CIBC client, the fee is $5.00 each. The same PDF says fees do not apply to cashing Government of Canada cheques. The branch can still decline. |
Not every cheque is this row
A certified cheque fee is what the account holder pays to certify, on certified cheque fees in Canada. A bank draft is a different instrument, on bank draft and cashier's check fees. TD's public fee tables opened the same day list cheque fees for TD accounts. They do not print a non-customer cashing dollar, so TD is not in this table.
