KeyBank overdraft fee
KeyBank puts the overdraft item charge on the same page as the monthly checking fees. This page is only the overdraft rules. The monthly fee is on [how to waive the monthly fee at KeyBank](/guides/waive-keybank-monthly-fee). The wider table is [US overdraft fees by bank](/guides/us-overdraft-fees-by-bank).

The $20 item charge
Opened 21 October 2026. The dollars are from KeyBank's checking account options, in the Key Coverage Zone footnote. Overdraft item charges are $20 per item. They apply to a check, an in-person withdrawal, a recurring debit card transaction, or another electronic item. ATM withdrawals and one-time debit card items are not charged unless you opted in and authorized KeyBank to pay those items into overdraft.
For consumer accounts, KeyBank does not charge when the account is overdrawn by $20 or less at the end of the day. Charges are assessed on up to 3 items a day, and the maximum is $60 a day per account. The charge may not post on the same day as the transaction. There is a cap of 20 assessed overdraft charges in a monthly statement period. If the overdrawn available balance is more than $20 at the end of the day for 5 business days in a row, KeyBank adds a $20 recurring overdraft service charge.
KeyBank says approval of an overdraft is a discretionary courtesy. The phone on the page is 1-800-539-2968.
The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not call the institution.
| Line | What the page prints |
|---|---|

| Statement cap | 20 assessed overdraft charges in a statement period |
| Key Coverage Zone | No charge if overdrawn by $20 or less at the end of the day |
| Recurring overdraft service charge | $20 after 5 business days in a row overdrawn by more than $20 |

A linked account
The same page says you can link checking to an eligible credit or savings account to cover overdrafts without a transfer fee. That transfer is not the $20 item charge. If the linked account cannot cover the item, the item charge can still apply under the rules above. Hassle-Free is a different account for Allpoint, and it is not a different overdraft dollar on this page. The footnote says to see the account's Personal Checking Account Fees and Disclosures for more.
