The $36 paid item fee
Opened 21 October 2026. Regions' help page What are the fees for overdrafts? says the Paid Overdraft Item fee is $36 per item and is subject to change. It says there is no charge on a checking, savings, or money market account if Regions does not pay a check or other item and returns it. It says Regions does not charge a transfer fee for Overdraft Protection transfers. On a personal or small business account, Regions charges no more than 3 Paid Overdraft Item fees a day. If the available balance is overdrawn by $5 or less after end-of-day processing, Regions does not charge a Paid Overdraft Item fee for items that post that day.
The LifeGreen Checking quick guide (PDF) prints the same $36 per item Regions pays when the account does not have enough available funds. It prints $0 for a returned item, $0 for an extended overdraft penalty, and no transfer fee for Overdraft Protection. That PDF is the LifeGreen account. Regions Now Checking is a different account.
The phone the bank prints for checking the available balance is 1-800-734-4667. Use the number on your statement if it disagrees.

Overdraft Grace
Regions' 15 June 2023 announcement, Regions Bank Gives Customers More Time to Avoid Overdrafts, says Overdraft Grace gives you until 8 p.m. Central Time the following business day, when the available balance is overdrawn by more than $5, to make a deposit. If the available balance is not overdrawn by more than $5 after nightly processing the following business day, Regions does not charge a paid overdraft item fee. No enrollment is required. It applies to Regions Consumer Banking and Private Wealth Management personal checking accounts. Regions Now Checking is the exception: it is not eligible for Standard Overdraft Coverage and does not carry overdraft fees.
The same announcement says Regions eliminated overdraft protection transfer fees, eliminated returned item fees, and capped overdraft fees at 3 a day. Those sentences match the help page. A deposit is still subject to cutoff times and funds availability. The announcement says some deposit and transfer options can have their own fees.
