Vancity NSF fee
Vancity prints the NSF dollar in the Personal Service Charge Bulletin, and the situations that skip it on a help article. This page is that fee. Pay As You Go's monthly and per-use charges are on [Vancity Pay As You Go](/guides/waive-vancity-monthly-fee). The wider table is [Canada NSF fees by bank](/guides/canada-nsf-fees-by-bank).

The $10 NSF item
Opened 21 October 2026. The dollar is from Vancity's Personal Service Charge Bulletin (PDF). The miscellaneous fees table prints $10.00 per item for a non-sufficient funds item returned unpaid. Footnote 25 says the fee is charged when a cheque, pre-authorized debit, pre-authorized payment, or other payment item is returned because there are not enough available funds. On a personal account, an NSF fee is not charged more than once within two business days. If the item is presented again after two business days and the funds are still not available, another NSF fee can be charged.
A deposited item returned unpaid is a different line on the same table, at $7.50. That is a chargeback on something you deposited. It is not the NSF fee on a payment you sent.
The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not call the institution.
| Line | What the bulletin prints |
|---|---|
| NSF item returned unpaid | $10.00 per item |
| Personal account cap | Not more than once within two business days |
| Presented again later | Another fee if funds are still not available after two business days |
| Deposited item returned | $7.50 |
When the help article says the fee is skipped
Vancity's help article What are NSF fees and how can I avoid them? repeats the two-business-day rule for personal accounts. It also says no NSF fee is charged if the account is overdrawn by less than $10. That $10 cushion is on the help article. The bulletin footnote that printed the $10 item fee does not repeat the cushion, so use the help article for that sentence and the bulletin for the dollar.
The same article says an overdraft charge can appear and then be reimbursed. That charge is for a cheque or pre-authorized debit that puts the account into overdraft. If the transaction is returned unpaid, Vancity reimburses the overdraft fee and charges the NSF fee instead. The article points back to the service charge bulletin for the overdraft dollar. This page does not copy an overdraft dollar the bulletin line did not isolate from the package tables.
The call numbers on that help article are 604-877-7000 in Metro Vancouver, 250-519-7000 in Greater Victoria, and 1-888-826-2489 toll-free. Use the number on your statement if it disagrees.
