The $36 fee
Opened 21 October 2026. The figures are from Hancock Whitney's standard overdraft services page and its support answer on personal overdraft fees. The bank may charge $36.00 each time it pays an NSF item into overdraft. It assesses no more than 5 overdraft fees per account per day.
The support answer says Hancock Whitney does not charge NSF fees on personal accounts for items returned for insufficient funds. Checks, ACH, automatic bill payments, and recurring debit card transactions can be paid at the bank's discretion under standard service. ATM and everyday debit card transactions are not paid into overdraft unless you opt in. The bank does not guarantee every item.

| Line | What the pages print |
|---|---|
| NSF item paid into overdraft | $36.00 each |
| Personal item returned for NSF | No NSF fee |
| Daily cap | No more than 5 overdraft fees per account per day |
| End of nightly batch | No fee if the available balance is overdrawn by $10.00 or less |
| Small item | No fee on an item of $5.00 or less |
| Assure Checking | No NSF fees and no overdraft fees on that account |
How to avoid it
No overdraft fee is imposed if, after nightly batch processing, the available balance is overdrawn by $10.00 or less. No overdraft fee is imposed on an item of $5.00 or less. If the balance is overdrawn by more than $10 after that batch, the $36 can apply to each NSF item that day, up to the daily limit of five.
Leave ATM and everyday debit opt-in off if you want those transactions declined instead of paid into overdraft. The personal checking page says Assure Checking does not assess NSF fees or overdraft fees. A linked deposit transfer used to cost $10, and Hancock Whitney says that personal deposit-to-deposit transfer fee was eliminated. A HandyLine transfer can still have its own fee. The pages do not print a phone number for this fee.
